HDTV Televisions – Which One Would You Choose?
If you have thought about upgrading your old conventional Tv set and move to the awesome world of HDTV televisions you may notice that there are many types of screens. Every one of them has its own pros and cons when it comes to image quality, motion and color projection. In fact, the differences between screen types are so noticeable that people that are HDTV savvy can easily differentiate them without having to look at product specifications. So which one is the best one for you? It all depends on what you are looking for in an HDTV. In this article you will read about the pros and cons of the different technologies that are present in HDTV televisions.
Plasma screens were the previous kings of the HDTV world until LCDs won the battle recently This technology is similar to CRT in some aspects including the warm colors, high contrast and excellent projection of black colors. Plasma sets in the early years had a very short lifespan and could suffer from burn in quite fast. After some years in the market they improved in terms of reliability and lifespan. These screens are perfect to watch movies and recorded media. On the downside they require more energy to operate and even they are still prone to burn in. The most popular technology is now LCD. LCD stands for liquid crystal display. LCDs have outstanding colors. They do not have the refection problem that Plasma HDTV have and they are very energy efficient. If you decide on one of these sets you have to be sure the model is top quality since the performance of these sets varies a lot between models and brands. On good sets however, colors can be mesmerizing and very rich. DLP is the other leading screen type. As of now most of the time DLP is associated with rear projectors. While their image quality is lower if you compare them to Plasmas and LCDs they are very budget friendly to those that are looking to create a home movie theater or just prefer a rear projector. The contrast is not as good but, if you compare the size vs money they may still be an option to consider. There are more HDTV technologies available on the market. However, these are the technologies that dominate the market. Sure there are more like LCoS but they have not had the impact that these have.
